The research team in charge of preparing the first issue of the new series of the
Arab Human Development Report opened a forum for a free debate on the concept of
human security. The aim was to enrich the understanding of the report writers by
engaging the Arab public in discussing what human security means and its implications
for the Arab world.
The Forum solicited reader’s views on:
- What does the concept of human security mean to you? How is it different from national or state security?
- What are the major threats to human security in the Arab world?
- Do Arab governments do enough to safeguard human security of their citizens?
- What do you think should be done in order to enhance human security in Arab countries?
- Do you have other ideas that you would like to contribute to this debate? What are they?
